Lacing the birchbark canoe

Week of June 3rd, 2019

Dear Canoe Builders, Friends, and Supporters:

Greetings! This is a reminder that Week 4 of the Birch Bark Canoe Project is tonight, Monday, June 3rd, from 5-9 pm at the Ely Folk School. We meet in the North Classroom; next to the red blacksmith shop behind the folk school. Suggested parking is in the big lot accessed from the alley. Feel free to come when you can and leave when you want.
Our focus tonight is on lacing canoe hull bark with spruce roots and constructing end-frames. Ongoing work includes crafting with broad hatchets, draw knives & shaving horses, and crooked knives to produce cedar gunwale caps, planks, and ribs.
