This class is a beginner level pine needle basketry class with an advanced twist. Using the entire pine needle, this technique keeps the sheath of the pine needles intact and uses them as an enhancement and part of the design. Each student will be given everything necessary to complete a 4-5″ basket, including a pre-drilled wooden basket center. It is a fun, low-key class. You’ll leave with the skills to let your imagination run wild and create beautiful baskets using many different things as your basket center.
Pine needle art is among the oldest crafts known and pre-dates pottery. For over 9,000 years, Native Americans have made such baskets for storing food and supplies. Although baskets can be made from a variety of materials, including sweet grass and raffia, among the most beautiful are from pine needles.
