Chess is an ancient game of strategy that continues to captivate people to this day. Players of all skill, ages, and interest are invited to join the Ely Folk School for an evening of chess and community building. Whether you’ve been playing for years or have never played but are curious to learn, this will be a friendly, noncompetitive environment that focuses on enjoying the game of chess and all it has to offer. Bring your own set if you have one, as well as any snacks and refreshments you wish to share with the group. This evening will be facilitated by Ely Folk School instructor Charlie Cecil.

Registration not required, but encouraged.

About the Facilitator: Charlie Cecil has been living and working in the woods of northern Minnesota since 2011. Over the years, he has guided canoe trips, worked with sled dogs, hiked and camped all over the state. He first got involved with the Folk School through the Birch Bark Canoe Project. While no chess master, Charlie has played and enjoyed the game for a long time and feels ready to facilitate whatever the Ely Chess community has to offer.
