Canoe Country Greetings!
Each week (until September 19th) we meet on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. at the Ely Folk School (EFS) for friendship, sharing, hands-on learning about traditional birch bark canoe construction, cultural history, and more. Everyone is welcome to visit, observe, or participate.
This week’s Birch Bark Canoe Project (BBCP) schedule includes:
Tuesday, June 12
- 5-6 pm – Minnesota Canoe Museum (MCM) Tour inside Ely Folk School.
- 6-9 pm – BBCP Continue work on 20-foot Ojibwe Long-Nose canoe:
- Pegging & lashing gunwales
- Splitting & carving cedar planks & ribs
- Crafting with birch bark
- Peeling & splitting spruce roots
Wednesday, June 13
- 6-9 pm – BBCP Continue work on 20-foot Ojibwe Long-Nose canoe:
